MISCELLANEOUS:
This Saturday, September 14, Spencers at 1430 S. Tejon is hosting a seven year old from Salida, Colorado (Addie) for St Jude children’s Hospital. Last year instead of getting birthday gifts, she started a cookie stand to raise money for the kids at St Jude. She raised $10,000. This year her goal is 12,000 and she’s about $600 away from it. If anybody’s in the area on Saturday, come visit Addie’s cookie stand for St Jude. (ALICE ROBINSON)
Twenty-three years ago we were in Manhattan on Sept 11th. I was in the wholesale district and saw the smoke coming out of the first tower. I got a cab and while in the cab, the second building was hit and we knew it was terrorists. I picked up my 80 year old Aunt Goldie at the Eye and Ear Hospital in Manhattan. She was the only person to have eye surgery that day. When we got back to the hotel in Manhattan, we sat outside our hotel because we weren’t sure if it was going to be bombed. David went down to the temporary Medical-Surgical Mash Unit with thirty-nine other cardiologists and there was no one there to help. 9/11 is a day we’ll never forget. (PAULETTE GREENBERG)
As many of you know, a year after 9/11, I brought in then Mayor Rudy Giuliani from NY City to speak about 9/11. With the monies I raised, the Reach Your Peak Scholarship Fund at UCCS was started. He cost me $130,000 and we cleared $100,000. Over 720 people attended the event at the Broadmoor, including students. (PAULETTE GREENBERG)
