MESSAGING SERVICE:

  1. Dear Friends…We are writing to let you know that our beloved Mama (Mary Mashburn) died last Saturday evening after a fall at home on Wednesday morning.  The doctors at Memorial did a scan of her head injuries and saw that she had massive brain bleeds that meant she would not recover. They stabilized her until Melissa and I could get to CO Wednesday night, and then we started the equivalent of hospice in the hospital.   Saturday afternoon we could tell she was entering the final stage of leaving us. (Only such a wonderful Mama would time it so we could go home to sleep in our old bedrooms and not be out on the roads once the snow started.)  We wanted to share that over the last few weeks Mama spent a lot of time thinking about her life, prompted by Mary Helsaple nominating her for an honor from the Girl Scouts of Colorado. She reminisced about her time as a Girl Scout in North Carolina and especially about her Colorado Springs community. You all meant so much to her and to our father; thank you for sharing your talents, your friendship, your love.  We should note that Mama’s Girl Scout camp counselor name was Happy. Even though she was devastated by our father’s death, she was looking forward and remembering that life always held new adventures and the loving embrace of community. We’re including this photo Deborah Thornton took of her just last week, smiling as she showed off her new blue glasses. We were planning to hold a memorial service for our father in May, their shared birthday month; now we will make it a memorial celebration for both of them. We would love it if you wanted to send along a few words of remembrance that we can include in that celebration. And it would do our hearts good to know that Mama and Daddy live on in the hearts of their beloved friends.
All our love, Daughters Mary and Melissa Mashburn
    We’ll be at 2224 Sussex Lane, 80909 for a bit, and also: Mary’s information: mgmaryland@gmail.com    443-629-0128

  3. Execs-I am a part of a prayer group for small business owners/managers that meets once a month. There are currently nine businesses in the group. We are meeting next week, Thursday, Feb. 9th at 8 AM at Pikes Perk Coffee and Tea House off Academy. We meet for an hour and usually go around sharing what is going on in our businesses and then pray for each other. We’d love to have you join us!  Let me know if you would like any more information.  (BROOKE ORIST)

MISCELLANEOUS:

  1. A friend of mine and local architect, Brian Risley, is running for an at-large seat for Colorado Springs City Council. He would greatly appreciate your support and vote. (BILL HUFFOR)
  2. As many of you know, past member of CSEA, Mary Mashburn, founder of The Imagination Celebration, now the Imagination Celebration Place with Deborah Thornton as the Executive Director passed away on Saturday. My husband and I were so lucky to have had her daughters call us last Friday, so that we could come to the ICU at Memorial Hospital to say good bye to our dear friend Mary. I had named Mary The Fairy Godmother of Colorado Springs. She was an unbelievable person that made such a difference in our world, even receiving an award from the Kennedy Center in Washington DC. When you visit the Fine Arts Center, you will see the tribute to Mary and Wayne Mashburn in the first exhibit hall on the right.  (PAULETTE GREENBERG)
